There was a real night club vibe to the LMFF Fashion Collections#5 Renegades, held at the fashionably late time of 10pm at Stonnington’s Malvern Town Hall. Our fashion scout shares her highlights.
From Britten:
Sophisticated earthy colours and draping dominated the women’s wear looks offered by From Britten.
Menswear included structured suits and smart tailored dressing with the twist of rolling up the suit pant bottoms. I wonder if we will be seeing this in the CBD soon?
Luela:
Flowing maxi dresses were the highlight of this label, complete with bold digit prints that have been recently seen on the Northern Hemisphere catwalks.
Also spotted was the very ladylike laying of lace and sheer fabric to create stylish cocktail wear.
Black and nude were popular colour combinations chosen by this label and were complimented with bold, and ever popular, MIMCO jewellery pieces.
Vanguard:
This is when frivolity really started and the night moved from cocktail party to a cool club. Hunky male models gave attitude in their edgy black and white graphic print tees, teamed with washed-outed skinny leg jeans.
Interestingly, men were given their version of Sass & Bide’s ‘Black Rats’ of last year with the option of rousing on their skinny legs.
Tough studded accessories complimented the women’s wear and worked with the blazer and patchwork jean or long graphic top and leggings look offered.
Twitchett and Tonge:
Proved to be an exciting new label combining a ladylike feel, with a sexy and tough attitude.
Black, navy and snake motive featured throughout the show. The hottest looks included a deep electric blue bat wing knit with just the right amount of nightclub sparkle, teamed with shiny black snake printed leggings. Sexy without trying too hard.
Rufus Green:
Hoods were on almost everything on this menswear show from slightly deconstructed suits to leather jackets.
Layering and draping were also huge, almost giving the models an Arabian feel.
Definitely fun men’s wear and also very practical in the Melbourne climate.
Chocolate City:
Super high waisted jeans and a short cropped leather jacket kicked it off as the models strutted to funky beats.
Again, shiny patterned leggings were big, as to animal print, but this time in the panelling of selected pieces. A gothic romantic feel was offered via the black velvet dresses, very Twilight.
Stevie:
Popular nightclub beats with the word ‘Stevie’ cleverly mixed in got the crowd pumping. Models came out dancing and male models had their trousers pulled down to reveal the word Stevie on their underpants, much to delight of the audience.
Electric, peacock and powder baby blue dominated the women’s wear. Velvet featured once more and knits with the right amount of sparkle woven in.
Pieces had a military feel but with a funky, fun twist, as there is nothing serious or stuffy about this label.
For ladies the peacock blue Sargent Pepper style jacket was a standout as to the two jumpsuits: one in leopard print motive, the other peacock blue with a swirl print.
Menswear had fun with the military/navy motive of course!
