Rescu. chats with wine expert and Jacobs Creek winemaker, Rebekah Richardson, on the finer details of choosing the perfect wine for you and four ways of pairing it with your ultimate get together, be it a barbeque, picnic or dining out!
Jacobs Creek winemaker, Rebekah Richardson shares her expert knowledge with Rescu. and why the new wine range, Jacob’s Creek Cool Harvest, is the perfect accompaniment for any type of get-together with friends.
RESCU: Do you have to spend a lot of money to get a good wine?
Rebekah Richardson: No not really, especially if you pick a branded Australian wine. Australia is at the forefront of winemaking and has perfected its production techniques, which means that we are in the best position to produce good quality wines, throughout all the different price points.
RESCU: What are the style and characteristics of a good Sauvignon Blanc, Rosѐ and Pino Grigio?
Rebekah Richardson: What is good depends on individual taste, so it’s important that consumers can drink what they love. For me, a good Sauvignon Blanc has lychee and passionfruit notes on the nose and is soft and approachable. A rosѐ, is all about the fresh spectrum of gorgeous summer berries and fruits; layering the palate to build interest. Fresh vibrant pears and lemon makes an elegant and delicate Pinot Grigio.
RESCU: What do you think of clean skins and cask wine?
Rebekah Richardson: Everyone has their own taste and personal preference when it comes to wines. While there are good cleanskins and cask wine, I believe wines that come from a particular brand are more likely to give consumers the quality and consistency they are looking for. A label is a winemaker’s badge of honour and allows them to add that personal touch.
RESCU: What makes the Cool Harvest range special and worth a try?
Rebekah Richardson: The Jacob’s Creek Cool Harvest range is light and fresh, making it the perfect drop for summer. It is harvested in the cool of the night, hence the name. By picking the grapes at their coolest, we retain as much of the freshness and flavour of the natural grape as possible. As the quality and flavour of the wine starts in the vineyard, this is crucial to making very fresh and light bodied wines with clean flavours.
Rebekah’s top 4 ways to pair your favourite foods with the perfect wine!
1. Meet at the local park for an afternoon picnic under the sun. A cheese platter is perfect for sharing. Try shaved parmesan with a sparkling wine, the lightness and freshness will balance out the sharp salty parmesan flavour.
