How often have you set a goal that you really didn’t believe you could achieve?
As we approach the end of 2009, many people will reflect on the year that has happened. It certainly has been a big one, talk of a recession, tough times and challenges have dominated the headlines. Yet many people have harnessed the opportunities that are being missed and are making major headways in their personal and business lives.
How to change your mind set
I realised many years ago that energy follows thought. That if you spend time focusing on challenges and difficulty, your mind will not see past the problems and therefore will set up a pattern of failure.
If you train your mind to see beyond problems and focus on solutions you will always move forward and get what you want out of life in a positive way.
So how do you feel about the about the year that has past? Have you been left exhausted, or are you feeling exhilarated?
The only thing we actually have any power over is the power of perspective. How we see life and translate it is truly ours to own. I invite you to think about that for a moment and embrace it knowing that you truly own this one thing that makes the difference regarding how you feel about life, the people in it and the experiences you are having.
Know that as you enter 2010 that you can take all that has happened ‘to’ you and see it as opportunities that have happened ‘for’ you.
Here are some easy techniques to get you started:
1. When goal setting, make sure there are no consequences for having the things you are putting out for otherwise you will never achieve your goals fully.
2. Express goals in the present tense. Avoid using words such as “I am going to” or “one day in the future I will”. Instead use wording such as, “I am”, or “I have”.
3. Using visualisation techniques will help you to see yourself achieving your desired outcome. Don’t worry about how you will get your goal, simply see and feel yourself there having it and experiencing it.
4. Remember that above all else your intention is key to your success.
For example, at a conscious level you want a relationship, but keep attracting people who are not committed. This is a very good sign that at a deeper level you are scared of relationships and that the people you bring in are simply mirroring your fears. This is the perfect time to begin to use your ‘will’ to move you from this space – try using words such as ‘I will my will to have a perfect and harmonious relationship now’ – your ‘will’ creates the desire that will in effect creates the intention to get what you want in a positive way.
Above all else avoid creating elaborate goals and start with a something simple such as being happy and content in life. You might just find that some of the things you thought would make you happy were not in fact the things that truly will.
