The music set the tone for Alice McCall’s 2013 Mercedes Benz Fashion Week extravaganza. Booming through the crowd for a good minute before the models made their entrance, the throbbing bass and celestial melodies laid way for a collection that was ethereal and yet grounded in deep and rich tones.
With golds, electric blues and neutrals making their way up and down the runway, McCall exploited the recent uprising of ruffles to its full extent. With puffy sleaves and ruffled detail, gowns and smock-length tops bounced as they were propelled forward.
Prints and embellishments were blatantly nature-inspired, but veered away from cliched florals. Dramatic not-quite-under-the-sea prints and not-quite-butterfly cut outs were fun and flirty, the perfect combination for any fashionista.
