Anja Nissen, 18 year-old bombshell and Wildcard contestant has been crowned the winner of this year’s The Voice Australia.
After consistently blowing away the judges and audience with her powerhouse performances, it was only fitting that the humble high school student from Winmalee, NSW, took out Channel Nine’s popular reality singing competition.
Coached by singer-songwriter and former member of the Black Eyed Peas, Will.i.am, Anja’s stunned the live audience with her pitch-perfect version of David Guetta’s ‘When Love Takes Over’ during the grand finale which aired last night.
A firm believer in Anja’s talent from the start, Will said, “Fergie, Gaga Britney, Miley…Anja is right there with them all. I believe Anja’s not just an Australian talent. She could go all around the globe,” before offering her a record contract with his own label.
Nissen said, “I cannot believe that I am the winner of The Voice 2014. It feels like I have been preparing for this for a long time.
“I started singing when I was six and always dreamt about my career kicking off, but I never thought it would happen early, and The Voice has given me an outlet to do that.” She also thanked her famous mentor, “And getting to work with will.i.am — he has taught me so much and pushed me beyond my boundaries, which I really needed.”
Anja was scouted from last year’s NSW Schools Spectacular by the network, who suggested Nissen try out for The Voice.
24-year-old classically trained Jackson Thomas picked up by Ricky Martin after being eliminated from Kylie’s team was voted runner-up, while 29-year-old soul singer and drummer Johnny Rollins of Team Kylie came in third, despite topping the iTunes chart ahead of the other contestants in the week leading up to the final.
Anja Nissen’s first single with Universal Music Australia, My Girls, is expected to hit the stands this Friday, July 25 and is to be followed by a full album.
