Australia’s finest music acts were honoured at the ARIA Awards 2014, with recording artist and songwriter Sia and producer, singer and songwriter Chet Faker scooping the pool on the night.
While rousing performances to kick off the show at Sydney’s The Star by 5 Seconds of Summer, Jessica Mauboy and Hilltop Hoods the show was not without it’s more tender moments.
Ian ‘Molly’ Meldrum and the seminal music show he hosted on the ABC for many years, Countdown, were inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame. Molly made a touching speech after receiving his award resented by Marcia Hines and John Paul Young.
Chet Faker, ARIA’s producer of the year also took to the stage to perform his hit, Talk is Cheap. Shortly after his performance, he beat out Guy Sebastian, Vance Joy and Dan Sultan to take out Male Artist of the Year.
Fans were delighted by the arena-style performances by international acts One Direction and Katy Perry who has been named to perform at 2015’s Super Bowl.
The John Butler Trio, Hilltop Hoods and Kasey Chambers were a familiar site on the winner’s podium, but the ARIA stage welcomed plenty of new-comers on Australia’s music scene.
