The ultimate accessory to any look, the secret to standout eyes is easier than you think. Iconic Global Beauty Expert Bobbi Brown shows us how to create the perfect eyes with just a few easy steps.
The perfect eye begins with a good skincare regime. Eye cream should be applied before any eye makeup application.
Perfecting the eyebrows should not be forgotten. Brows should be filled with a shadow that matches your eyebrow, swept up and then over with a brush.
‘Follow the line, creating an arch, going down into a little bit of a tail’
The natural arch of the eyes should be followed. You can define with a brow pencil and set with a brow gel.
‘Pencils are great to get definition.’
An eye base like Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Eye Base should be applied before eye shadow to prep the lids. This will allow the shadow to stay longer, and keep the eyelids smooth.
‘It’s cream to powder, the end result is incredibly smooth, and the colours are based on skin tone.’
Make sure you chose a tone lighter than your skin to achieve a nice, bright lid. When applying eye shadow, begin with a light tone from lash to brow. You then want to layer your tones, rather than blend. Adding a medium shadow allows light definition that doesn’t require blending. For additional depth, add a medium to dark shadow in the crease.
When adding liner, apply as close to the lashes as possible, and build up from there. If you start thin, you can gradually add to make the line thicker. Be sure to line the entire lash, not just half way.
‘I like to lift the eyelid a bit so you make sure you get into the lash line.’
Use a little bit of powder shadow to lightly line underneath the eye. To intensify the eye, double line the lash with a gel liner like Bobbi Brown Chocolate Truffle Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner. Make sure the top line is visible when eyes are open.
To complete the look, curl your eyelashes with a curler for a few seconds. Layer your lashes for extra impact with two mascaras like Bobbi Brown Smokey Eye Mascara and Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Mascara.
‘I’m starting with Long-Wear, because it has a really teeny little brush, and it gets every little lash.’
Brush mascara thoroughly from the base to the tip of your lashes, top and bottom. Layer lashes with two or three coats of mascara to make them thick, dark and voluminous.
‘See how easy? Anyone can do their own pretty powerful makeup.’
