Unlikely screen siren Bridget Jones is coming back to our screens with a baby in tow. Universal Pictures recently announced to People magazine that Renée Zellwegger and Colin Firth will reprise their roles as Bridget Jones and Mark Darcy in the hotly anticipated, third instalment of Bridget Jones’ Diary. It is believed the film will fill the gap between the Edge of Reason and Helen Fielding’s novel Mad About The Boy.
Loveable rouge, Daniel Cleaver, played by Hugh Grant is not scheduled to make an appearance. Instead, pictures have emerged of Patrick Dempsey on set. This should make for an interesting dual. Patrick Dempsey is best known for playing Dr. Derek “McDreamy” Shepherd on Grey’s Anatomy.
At first glance, a slimmed down Bridget Jones has been pictured in the park with what looks like a pregnant belly. Although Bridget was blissfully married to Mark Darcy where the films left off, the identity of the father remains a tightly kept secret.
Only time will tell if baby Jones will tote a reindeer sweater or the charms of a suitor other than Mark Darcy have swept Bridget off her feet.
Fans of the films were initially cautious about Renée Zellwegger stepping back into the oversized panties of Ms. Jones after the actress was photographed at an Elle Magazine Party in 2014 looking dramatically different.
Renée credited the refreshed look with being at a good place in her life, “I’m glad folks think I look different! I’m living a different, happy, more fulfilling life, and I’m thrilled that perhaps it shows,” the actress said in a statement to People Magazine.
Bridget Jones’ Baby will be directed by original showrunner Sharon Maguire with Helen Fielding overseeing the screenplay. The bundle of joy is expected in September 2016.
