Furthermore, the dog-eared pages of her Aussie Body Diet and Detox Plan book can be spotted on the bedside – and kitchen – tables of the world’s healthiest hotties.
Here, Saimaa talks exclusively to Rescu. about the tips and trusted to-do’s she and her celebrity clients – live by.
RESCU: What is the one thing most of the celebrities you work with love most about healthy living?
Saimaa Miller: “Healthy living is paramount for celebrities to keep on top of their game, for longevity in their work and to combat the demands placed on them due to their sometimes erratic work schedule, including hours of travel and having to constantly adjust to different time zones. It’s basically the key to looking and feeling their best.”
RESCU: Miranda’s hair is unchallenged in its gloss and beauty. What’s the internal health secret here?
Saimaa Miller: “Beautiful, lustrous hair comes from a diet rich in fatty acids and silica. After all, your hair is an extension of your bodies’ cellular structure and made up of a touch protein called keratin. For gorgeous hair, we work on a diet which includes healthy, monounsaturated fats such as avocado, olive and wheat germ oils, and foods rich in silica i.e. leafy green vegetables, cucumber, millet, oats, onions, rice, whole grains, alfalfa, barley and beetroot.
RESCU: Jessica Gomes always has such bright eyes. What’s your expert tip?
Saimaa Miller: “As a naturopath, we are trained to look at the eyes as a part diagnosis of an individual’s state of health. Simply put, the clearer and whiter the eyes are, the healthier celebrities tend to be. The whites or sclera in our eyes can change in colour to a more yellowish tone due to the harshness of our climate. For example, too much sun or wind exposure can damage the DNA of the eye cellular structure causing yellowing of the sclera. So we work to avoid this by reducing free radical damage and having a diet rich in antioxidants.”
RESCU: Let’s talk about skin – a-la it-girl of the moment, Nicole Trunfio. What needs to be avoided to get the best skin when you’re so busy?
Saimaa Miller: “Congested or problematic skin conditions can arise when the skin is overburdened from highly processed substances such as refined sugar, white flour products and excessive fats. (Or copious hours of travel, which can cause the skin to become dehydrated.) Our skin is the largest organ in the body and one of the important detoxification channels. Therefore what you eat and having adequate moisture leads to glowing skin.”
RESCU: Lara Bingle is not shy of a bikini. And she is always two-piece ready! How does she keep her bod so smooth?
Saimaa Miller: “For great body skin texture, we concentrate on a diet rich in beta-carotene which constitutes the orange or red tones we find in fruit and vegetables such as carrots, pumpkin and sweet potato. It is a fat-soluble antioxidant which not only has the ability to improve skin elasticity and tone, but the carotenoid component enables a natural tanning of the skin by subtly changing pigment.”
RESCU: How do your celebrity clients beat jet lag?
Saimaa Miller: “Hydration is key to reduce the effects of jet lag. Think of jet lag simply as a hangover. The body will adjust quickly to different time zones, the more hydrated you are. Hydration comes from eating an alkaline diet concurrently with drinking lots of water.”
RESCU: What about getting through the 3pm slump when they are on set all day?
Saimaa Miller: “Focusing more on protein sources i.e. clean meat, nuts, seeds and legumes and eating consistently throughout the day will help to eliminate the afternoon slump and increase stamina.”
