Since when were supermodels slap-your-thighs hilarious? Sports Illustrated covergirl, Food Blogger, wife and muse of superstar singer John Legend and social media maven, Chrissy Teigen is adored the world over for her knockabout sense of humour as much as her knockout looks.
Find out the beauty, wellbeing and style tips from our gorgeous new girl crush!
Beauty:
Her heritage is a Norwegian / Thai, which would explain those killer cheekbones, graceful poise, caramel skin-tone and almond eyes. Discovered whilst working in a Californian surf shop as a teenager, Chrissy has gone onto work across television, catwalk, magazine covers as well as contributing to E! news and MTV. In recent years she has been part of the illustrious Sports Illustrated tribe, appearing on the cover of the 50th anniversary edition this year.
When it comes to her beauty routine, Chrissy lives by the ‘less is more’ ethos, and sticks to the looks that work for her. “I feel uncomfortable if I go too far outside the box,” she has said in a recent interview. “I’m horrible with hair,” she says in her self-depracating style. “I’ve thought about going to hair school to learn how to do my own blow-dry!” Although her schedule may not see her head back to the beauty books anytime soon, she certainly admits to taking makeup inspiration from other celebrities. “I’m very into contouring,” she has enthused. “I saw Kim Kardashian’s contouring photos on Instagram. It excites me!”
When it comes to her skin, Chrissy also avoids too much fuss as a high-rotation of facials actually worked against her in the past. “I realised it was drying me out,” she has said. So pared back is her routine that she only really washes her face pre-shoot.
Wellbeing:
The modern supermodel is far from the chain-smoking, reed thin nymph of the 90s. Chrissy spearheads a change in the Sports Illustrated mold of model, with her balanced, healthy lifestyle, love of eating and dislike of detoxes! “Food is so important to me. For some models it’s just body fuel, but for me it’s about being happy,” says the lover of fried chicken, noting that what works in swimwear doesn’t necessarily work between the sheets!
“The perfect body for runway is certainly not the perfect body for my man to hold onto!” she has quipped. Chrissy is a champion of understanding your own body and being comfortable that there is no ‘perfect body’. “There will always be pressure to be “in shape” but that pressure should make you want to live a healthy, fun life, not one that revolves around someone else’s idea of perfect,” she has been quoted as saying.
Style:
“Fashion can empower girls by giving them the confidence to be strong women,” Chrissy recently told the Huffington Post. “Looking your best can translate into feeling your best. I’m sure many people can relate to that awesome feeling of walking out the front door in the morning with that extra boost of confidence simply because you have on your favorite outfit!”
This is a feeling that Chrissy strives for, with a definite nod towards balance. To get her confidence on, Chrissy admits to working hard to get into shape for a bikini spread, but points out that if she didn’t have to be photographed half naked in highly circulated magazines, she would never even consider a cleanse. She knows only too well that her body is her business. “I love my in-clothes body,” she has admitted, adding that loving your bikini bod is a whole other ball game. “And getting in a bikini when you just completed 3 weeks of not just eating but FEASTING every single day is a little daunting to say the least.”
When she is fully clothed, she often opts for shorter sexy styles when she is ‘on’, but as soon as duty no longer calls, the hair is up and the looser threads are out. Whatever her fashion statement, as with her life, beauty and health, she keeps it uncomplicated. “Simple never goes out of style. Less is always more, unless we’re talking about fabric,” she has said. “Never just be sexy — be sexy and chic,” she has said.
