Jess Hart is a beautiful breath of fresh air. All gap toothed and green-living one moment, and the next, smouldering in her smalls on the international catwalk. Both images of Jess are only a snapshot of this divine dynamo. Here we get the scoop on how she counteracts her love of sweets, what her beloved pooch Floyd has taught her about life and her newest venture in beauty.
BEAUTY
“I just moisturize and then if I put on a sunscreen or tinted moisturizer, and curl my eyelashes. Pretty basic!” Jess has said of her off-duty, low-maintenance beauty routine. “Mum always says whenever you put on lip balm, use what’s left to highlight your cheeks and eyebrows. Which I love, and I still do to this day.”
With such a pared back approach to cosmetics, its no surprise Jess is currently in town to celebrate the launch of her new cosmetic range, LUMA, naturally derived products designed to maximize – not mask – a woman’s natural beauty. “As a model a lot of your time is spent sitting in the make-up chair” Jess says of the inspiration behind the 30-product range, “Everyone is always asking me what I do for my skin and what make up I’m wearing, but it’s as much about what I’m wearing as it is about how I’m wearing it,” she explains. “I wanted to share the few tricks of the trade I have learnt along the way, so anyone can know how to enhance their natural features or have an effortless natural glow.”
To maintain her complexion between cosmetic touch ups, even Jess’s facials are low key (her favourite skin Supremo ‘Fumi’ works out of her apartment). “She’s insane!” Jess has enthused. “She does these massage slash facials – they’re just amazing.”
Her one deviation from the neutral routine is to pick it up with some pink from her cosmetics colour palette. Recently she even developed a pink lipstick for Bright Pink Lipstick Day benefiting Pink Hope.
STYLE
A self-confessed T-Shirt and jeans girl – either skinny or high waisted are on rotation for her at the moment – Jess is definitely most comfortable in casual. In any paparazzi shot you see, Jess is more likely spotted traipsing around New York City in sneakers with her sidekick Floyd – who she credits for teaching her unconditional love and the ability to be in the moment – than in stilettos at red carpet events with her beau, billionaire Stavros Niarchos III. However, the face of Portmans – she has also appeared in campaigns for Cue, Esprit, Guess, Victoria’s Secret and Zimmermann – can mix it up when needed. Her favourite colour is bright pink, she says, so what she keeps sleek in silhouettes, she cranks up in colour!
WELLBEING
For Jess, the perfect day starts walking her beloved pooch Floyd, followed by a workout “and maybe trying to keep up with some sort of social media!” she has said. Currently keeping her brain fired up with French lessons – she has a private tutor – catching up with friends absorbs any spare time she has left between all these commitments – and regularly flying around the world.
Jess maintains her physical stamina with hard work, she admits. “If you want to get in shape and be healthy then you have to put in the work,” says the junk food fan. Mixing up the workouts is her secret. “You can easily get bored doing the same thing and if it’s something you dread you need to change it.” For Jess, that means osculating exercise routines between spin classes, yoga and running. For the latter, its done so in silence as that is her favourite track when hitting the track.
When she is lacking motivation, Jess gets a trainer on board to kick her into action as she finds someone telling her what to do not only motivational, but more productive during a workout. Her tip is to invest in a few sessions – or a yoga package – so that you follow through with your fitness commitments. “If have a personal trainer with me – someone who’s counting on me – I’m more likely to follow through,” she has explained. “Again, if it’s something I have paid for like a yoga package I’m more likely to use it. That’s a great incentive.”
When it comes to diet, when she has to put the breaks on the sweets she loves so much, it’s all fresh cut vegetables – particularly capsicum, cucumbers and carrots – for Jess. She loves the benefits of their hydrating properties and they are great in her much loved chicken and tuna salads. For snacks, it’s all about almonds and dried fruit when she needs an extra boost from her bites.
Admitting she has to remind herself to drink water, the coffee lover “I drink loads of coffee!” says that the H20 gives her the edge when it comes to maintaining energy levels.
