From Miss Universe to MYER ambassador, the statuesque model-entrepreneur and quintessential Aussie beauty, Jennifer Hawkins is one woman who walks the talk, in beauty, style and aesthetics. Here’s how:
BEAUTY
Not just a pretty face, Jen has put her mind and business muscle behind her own tanning range – JBronze – and says it is truly a dream come true. “It has taken a long time but it’s totally worth it!” Jen says. Aside from her golden glow, Jen goes the gamut between luxurious and results driven skincare – Chanel and Dermalogica are daily favourites – and keeps her skincare routine simple by using eye cream twice a day, and drinking at least two-litres of water. Most likely Mount Franklin of which she is the face too.
Watch below as Jen reveals her hair and makeup secrets:
Jen describes her perfect beauty look as laid back. To achieve this she applies JBronze Face Flawless Tan every second day and follows a glow boosting diet filled with lots of greens, olive oil or coconut oil and healthy fats, For hair, she admits to feeling most sexy when her hair is out with a bit of a wave in it. “It’s dead straight!” naturally, she admits. Going to bed with a bun remedies this though, she says. “I take it out and use dry shampoo, hair spray and a bit of sea salt spray and curl it.”
WELLBEING
An ambassador for Bioglan, Jen is also a judge for the Bioglan SuperFoods Project, the first crowdsourced superfoods cookbook and guide for Australians. Entrants from around Australia have been submitting their superfoods recipes and sharing their message of healthy eating.
Jennifer told RESCU, “I just thought it was a really great idea, to have a cookbook and have Australians involved. Everyone is really into it. It’s a buzz word, ‘superfood’ – I think everyone knows how good they are for you. For me, it was more like an educational thing as to what you can actually do with superfoods, more so than just having them in powdered form.”
On the recipes entered so far Jen says, “There’s been stacks of smoothies and drinks and desserts, but I was pushing more toward the savoury recipes because I’m not up on that, and I would love to know a bit more about it. It will be interesting to see the cookbook and I know it will be beautifully designed.”
Jen’s diet mirrors this clean, concise commitment with Jen telling me her morning snack is a deal breaker for the day. “I mix it up a bit, but generally it will include green apple or pear, celery, kale, ginger, Bioglan Spirulina and a whole lemon,” she says. For when hunger strikes, “a green apple, almonds, or a banana always get the energy levels up!” she laughs.
But it’s not just the aesthetic bonuses that motivate her meal choices. “Our bodies are made up of tiny cells,” she has said. “Each cell is damaged every time you eat processed food or drink, and when you feel stressed,” she has said.
“I’m all for eating healthily but I also enjoy living life and indulging in a few vices occasionally,” she has said. This includes her perfect non-work day finishing with a glass of pinot, Turkish delight for dessert and lots of “laughs with loved ones!”
Jen also loves to exercise – which makes her feel internally energized and happy. A self-confessed morning person, she adores nothing more than an early Pilates class or run if she is travelling. She also sees a trainer twice a week to mix up her routine with barre work and resistance training. “I like an athletic looking body so I go hard when it comes to toning muscle,” she has said. Jen also prioritizes smatterings of cardio sweat sessions five days a week. “If I’m travelling I make sure I’m staying somewhere that has a gym,” she says.
STYLE
If Jen had a choice, her daily staple – when the sun shines at least – would consist of “a little swimsuit, denim shorts, a loose singlet, and a hat: I’m a hat woman, I’m always wearing a hat! A little Chanel bag, thongs – and off I go!”
For this year’s Derby Day, Jen wore a stunning black lace dress by Alex Perry.
But as an ambassador for so many brands, this girl generally has to be ‘On’ 24/7, so you are more likely to catch her in designer duds. “I like both Australian and international designers,” she has said, noting that one of the favourite perks of being a MYER ambassador is the array of local talent she can champion. “I’m just glad we have rocking designers in this country so I can support our fashion industry.” Her role call of favourites include Sass & Bide, Manning Cartell, Ellery and Toni Maticevski – who designed her wedding gown consisting of 70 metres of silk organza, intricately ruched bodice and full, tiered-ruffle skirt and train. International names hanging pride of place in her wardrobe include Mulberry, Stella McCartney and Roland Mouret.
