With coral make-up making a huge come-back this season, it’s essential to know how to choose the right shade and work the look to ultimate affect! Rescu. brings you top tips for wearing coral colours from make-up experts Glenn Nutley and Bobbi Brown.
“Coral is the perfect mix of orange and pink and has a shade range to suit all skin types and tones. From pinky corals to nude corals to true corals eyes, lips and cheeks can all work this trend. A pop of Coral blush on asian or freckled skin works very well and coral is actually one of the most flattering lip shades for grey haired women. Don’t be afraid of coral, it’s cool again.” – Bobbi Brown
We’ve all seen the sexy Sarah Jessica Parker rock peachy cheeks on the screen and red carpet and wondered how we too can achieve the fresh, youthful sparkle she appears to emit. Lucky for us, Glenn Nutley has shared his celebrity tips and tricks:
“Unless I am going for a strong editorial statement I tend to use these peachy tones subtly. I personally like peach colours in a creamy texture. One of my very favourite blushes and it has been for years, is Bobbi Brown’s Calypso Coral cream, I do tend to use it pressed into the lip as well, it looks amazing on a younger girl with nothing else but mascara, and not powdered so it maintains the creamy appearance. I also tend to use it as a base for a stronger look under a translucent powder followed by Nars Orgasm powder blush over the top for a look that’ll last all day.
Coral or peach lips are cool in Spring and Summer, it’s a fresh look and can prolong a sun kissed appearance in the cooler months when worn with a warming dusting of bronzer. When I do this look for an evening event I ensure there is nothing else to compete with it. No dark smoky eyes, keep it fresh faced and glowing. Coral blush, lip and just mascara. I believe the nail colour should also either match this tonal theme or be nothing at all, just clear or French! Same with the frock, it looks best when you’re wearing black or white.”
Make up Maestro Bobbi Brown has single handedly made coral cool again. We asked her to share her backstage and real life tips to create three modern and flattering looks using coral make up:
For elegant beauty like Cate Blanchett…
Use a soft pink coral on the cheeks and lips to create a pretty sheen. To keep this look modern, the eyes stay nude with just a touch of natural cream eyeshadow, a thin liner and a lash lengthening mascara.
For a sun kissed glow like Jen Aniston…
Use a soft peach Lipstick on the lips with a shimmery color gloss on top. For the sun kissed glow, dust a bronzed coral Shimmer Brick high on the cheeks and over the eyelids. Finish the look with a few layers of black mascara.
For a High Fashion look like Sarah Jessica Parker…
Apply a soft fresh coral blush to the cheeks and make a statement eye the focus by layering bright corals and gold’s with matte and shimmery textures. Compliment the dramatic eye by sweeping a layer of nude gloss over the lips.
