The Block Fans vs Favourites 2014 came to a spectacular close this week, with all of the apartments selling at a significant profit, and Steve and Chantelle taking home the big win. Following the exciting finale, Rescu. caught up with The Block judge and interior designer Darren Palmer to find out his thoughts on the finished apartments and who were his pick to win The Block Fans vs Favourites.
RESCU: Who were you favourites to win The Block Fans vs Favourites and why?
Darren Palmer: I had two picks for the winner, simply based on what, in my opinion, stacked up best. While all apartments had their pros and cons, Dale and Brad had a very level offering, whilsy Alisa & Lysandra had ‘wow factor’.
RESCU: Is there a team’s design aesthetic that is closely aligned with your own?
Darren Palmer: Kyal and Kara’s palette was not dissimilar to what appeals to me. Alisa & Lysandra’s spacial awareness and planning, especially in things like the fireplace for example, were along the same aesthetic style as my own.
RESCU: Do your personal clients ever reference anything they have seen on the Block?
Darren Palmer: Not generally, no. Usually my clients are more interested in making something tailored specifically to them, created in a new way they haven’t seen before. If they do reference things, it will be hotels they’ve stayed in or destinations in their travels.
RESCU: What makes you passionate about interior design?
Darren Palmer: I love making value appear where there wasn’t any before. I really enjoy looking at something and figuring out how to get more use, more space and more beautiful luxury out of a property.
My approach is always how to bring a property to life in a way that makes the most of its location, its structure and its potential.
