That skin! That Body! That Spirit! That Boyfriend! Eva Mendes seems to have it all. In spades… Here Emma Bangay digs on her new skincare obsession, why she’s not a ‘jeans’ girl and why she prioritises sleep.
Beauty:
As the new face of Estée Lauder New Dimension transformative skincare collection, you’d be forgiven for thinking that Eva Mendes doesn’t have to lift a finger when it comes to beauty – but you’d be wrong. In a recent interview she admitted that her Cuban/American features can prove challenging to work with. “I can take a funky photo!” she has said, adding that over time she has mastered how to work best with her angular face (her words, not ours!) when it comes to being in front of the camera.
Although low-maintenance when it comes to skincare – relying on a blessed batch of DNA and Estée Lauder’s New Dimension’s firming, toning and lifting powers, Eva misses her essential beauty secret now that she has a young child. Her idea of happiness? “Sleeping in—and a deep-dish pizza!” she has quipped. When it comes to cosmetics, Eva has created her own capsule collection of professional – and affordable – quality products called CIRCA beauty. “I’m basically the walking advertisement,” she has confessed. Where do we sign up?
Style:
Although she may appear the epitome of refined style, Eva admits getting ready is often a rush job for her, which has proved the inspiration for her Eva Mendes Collection of incredibly feminine statement pieces. “One reason why I love doing this collection is that I’m designing for the modern woman who, like me, doesn’t have a lot of time and who can just say, ‘Okay, I like this look. This works on me,’ she recently revealed in an interview. She describes her collection as “like having an outfit in your back pocket so that you can just run out the door.” Admitting she is not a jeans gal at heart – “they’re too restrictive!” – Eva favours soft and floating vintage fabrics, skirts and scarves. Her essentials include floral print dresses – Dolce & Gabbana are favourite designers – but op-shop finds are also on high-rotation for this busy mum. Far from a style snob, Eva admits she gets much of her inspiration from second-hand and thrift-store finds and long-forgotten past-season wardrobe favourites she rediscovers and reinterprets for her collection.
Wellbeing:
Not many women can boast ‘Calvin Klein Lingerie Model’ on their CV. But even though Eva is one of the chosen, Times Square Billboard worthy few, she doesn’t take every inch and calorie too seriously – and is averse to criticizing her body. Of course she has to work out, she admits (up to 45 minutes with a trainer three days a week) but she also ensures enjoyment remains a major motivation. A longtime vegetarian, Eva credits her meat-free diet as a big factor in her wellbeing, saying that after a year of eliminating meat, her skin and health was hugely improved. She also credits her ability to steer clear of starch – white bread, white pasta, white rice – as a huge factor for long-term health and weight maintenance. Mental wellbeing is also a big thing for Eva, and she has been very open about her choice to consult a therapist on occasion. As she puts it, smoke, mirrors, lights, makeup and a personal trainer can only do so much, so for her, its more about being well-balanced, well-rested, well-fuelled and always leaning towards a positive attitude. “I’ve learned to love my body,” she has said. “I’m accepting of my body and have a good relationship with it.”
