Fashion week is a celebration. Why? Well of course it’s to see what collections the designers create; yet it’s also a celebration of the new faces to the game. Designers, models, photographers, hair and make up artists, bloggers and so on — the list is long and vast. It is the one week of the year where all of these creatives come together to showcase the best our country offers. Australia has incredible talent and by the list of international names, publications and buyers who come to be a part of the week, it’s clear they too see our unique offering.
Last night the week officially opened with Carla Zampatti. The VIP fashion crowd turned out in droves on this wet Sunday night and, with a buzz in the air, her collection did not disappoint. Elegant, classic, classy and cool; her directional pieces were infused in classic black and white tones punched with bold colour and beautiful detail. Styled by Michelle Jank, it was a impressive start to the week thanks to these two industry powerhouses. At a Mercedes dinner after the show Carla explained it perfectly. “Michelle knows show business like I know fashion, so we make a wonderful combination.”
Today, we were back bright and early for the first day of the week. Some of the highlights included Aurelio Costarella’s collection, full of colours and textures to compliment the female form.
Alex Perry being the show man of show men putting on quite the spectacular show complete with a gold runway and special guest Victoria’s Secret model, Alessandra Ambrosio.
Kahlo’s collection very wearable with a nod to the 90’s simplicity that I just adore. (Brenda and Brandon eat your heart out).
The surprise for me today? Strateas. Carlucci and their debut to MBFWA. Beautifully tailored pieces, the perfect knits and leathers. An aesthetic one wants to adopt and wear immediately.
BY JOHNNY packed a party in a frock with his use of use of colours, shapes and fabrics.
Then, Bec and Bridge. What magic ingredient they have I don’t know, but it cannot be messed with. The perfect wardrobe for dressed down chic, or the ultimate party frock for a night on the town. I could clock the mental shopping lists being made by my fellow fashion show goers.
And now as day one draws to a close and the lights on the runway switch off. The question. What will tomorrow bring?
Heels. Off.
