Joan Rivers, 81-year-old comedian and Fashion Police host is reportedly in a critical condition and remains on life support in a hospital.
According to reports by celebrity news site TMZ, “the family remains hopeful that if they do decide to turn off the machines, she will make a turn for the better and fight through it.”
Brooklyn-born Rivers reportedly stopped breathing during a medical procedure on her vocal cords at a clinic in New York on Thursday and was rushed to hospital.
“Her condition remains serious, but she is receiving the best treatment and care possible,” daughter Melissa Rivers (pictured, right) said in a statement released by the hospital.
“We ask that you continue to keep her in your thoughts as we pray for her recovery.”
Known for her tongue-in-cheek and sometimes controversial comments on red carpet fashion, Fashion Police co-host Giuliana Rancic, 40, has spoken out about the star’s softer side.
“Joan is incredible. When I went through my breast cancer, I cannot even tell you guys how nurturing she was, how loving she was,” she told E! News.
Stars and friends of the iconic Hollywood fixture flooded Twitter with messages of support.
Charlie Sheen wrote, “@joan_rivers Please come back to us young lady. Your inimitable genius and compassion keeps a world you set in motion, a lot better every day.” love and peace c sheen (sic),”
