One of fashion’s most prestigious events of the year, The Met Gala, continues to redefine beauty looks whilst celebrating traditional beauty that transcends the test of time. This year, one of the hottest young models Kendall Jenner seriously outshone her counterparts when she rocked the red carpet with the red lip of our dreams.
“Kendall had been thinking about her makeup for a week or so, but the night before the Met Gala an episode of her show aired, and she got an amazing response from the red lip she was wearing. That’s when she decided to do a bold, red lip,” said her makeup artist, Mary Phillips.
Here’s how to recreate the flawless beauty look in 5 simple steps:
Step One: Prep and prime for ultimate shine.
Makeup artist Mary Phillips prepped Kendall with Advanced Night Repair Concentrated Recovery Eye Mask. “I like to pop these into the fridge or freezer so they have a more cooling effect to the skin,” she explained. “The results are fabulous – just radiant, de-puffed, glowing.”
Step Two: Contour and conceal, in all the right places.
Double Wear Light Stay-in-Place Makeup in Intensity 2.5 gave Kendall’s skin a light and glowy finish. “The texture is silky and leaves skin looking like skin, but refreshed and even-tone,” Phillips said. She then added more depth and dimension with Bronze Goddess Powder Bronzer in Light, applying it in half-circles from her temple around to her outer cheek for contour. A touch of Bronze Goddess Illuminating Powder Gelee in Heat Wave on cheekbones, brow bones and the bridge of the nose then helping bring the bronzer to life.
Step Three: Pop of the eye, on the prize.
Phillips blended all of the shades in the Pure Color Envy EyeShadow together to sculpt our Kendall’s eyes. “I like that this palette weaves different finished together,” Phillips raved. She used the lighter, shimmery shades on inner corners and brow bones, then added the shade from the upper right corner of the palette in the crease. A coat of Sumptuous Knockout mascara completed the look. “I like to wiggle it at the base of the lashes; it inadvertently applies a liner without applying a literal liner,” Phillips advised.
Step Four: Build your brows and define your look.
“You want to create dimension in your brows, just as you do with the skin, eyes and lips,” Phillips explained. She used The Brow Multi-Tasker in both Light Brunette and Brunette on Kendall to give her “lush, off-duty model brows.”
Step Five: Add the lip, and it’s a hit.
The focal point of the look was Pure Color Envy Sculpting Lipstick in Carnal, one of Kendall’s faves.
