Advance Australia Tea! Kevin Rudd has launched his very own tea – Twinings Australian Afternoon Tea. The tea was born from a blending competition where The Hon Kevin Rudd MP beat out other competitors including Kerri-Anne Kennerley, Layne Beachley and Alan Jones.
Foreign Affairs Minister and now esteemed tea blender Kevin Rudd launched the new Twinings Australian Afternoon Tea at a media launch in Brisbane.
Joining the ranks of other famous Twinings blends, English Breakfast, Irish Breakfast, New Zealand Breakfast, Russian Caravan and even Prince of Wales; Twinings Australian Afternoon Tea will finally be available for sale in January 2012, right in time for Australia Day.
The new Australian Afternoon Tea will see 10 cents from each sale going towards Mr Rudd’s chosen charity, the RSPCA. More than 80,000 Australians cast their vote following a series of public tastings of the Top 5 blends in Sydney, Melbourne, and Perth and online during 2011.
The other finalists included radio legend Alan Jones, television icon Kerri-Anne Kennerley, seven-time world surfing champ Layne Beachley and country music star John Williamson. Mr Rudd was elated to hear the news. “I’m looking forward to seeing my winning blend on supermarket shelves from Australia Day 2012. The win is a win for Australia’s animals – with 10 cents from every tin going to the RSPCA. I’ve sampled tea across the globe but nothing quite meets the pleasure of sitting down on the verandah on a fine Brissie afternoon and having a refreshing Australian cuppa.”
The Twinings Australian Afternoon Tea is described as being rich, satisfying and robust, the perfect pick me up. Its well rounded, rich and extra strength flavour is perfect for those looking for a brisk, lively and invigorating tea. In creating his unique Twinings Australian Afternoon tea, Kevin blended the slightly smoky Russian Caravan with the full bodied Irish Breakfast and then added the light Ceylon Orange Pekoe.
Twinings Australian Afternoon Tea will be available in teabags (10 pack approx. $1.85 & 100 pack approx. $10.30) and loose leaf (125g pack approx. $5.99).
