A promotional trailer for reality series I Am Cait that aired after its fourth episode has shown a rare glimpse into the emotional impact of Caitlyn Jenner’s transitioning on her ex-wife, Kris Jenner.
The series, which is broadcasted worldwide in 123 countries and translated into 24 languages, centres on the personal life of recently transitioned Olympic athlete Caitlyn Jenner (sixty-five) as she reintroduces her new identity to family, friends, and the public eye.
But it seems as though Kris Jenner (fifty-nine), who is no stranger to the spotlight, has had the most emotional reaction to the athlete’s gender transition yet. Though the parents of Kendall (nineteen) and Kylie (eighteen) Jenner have so far offered words of support for each other in the press, there has clearly been some hang-ups and hurt feelings in the process.

The trailer shows the ex-couple embroiled in an emotion-charged discussion about the impact Caitlyn’s transition has had on Kris and their family. ‘You’re sensitive and amazing to all these new people in your life,’ Kris says, fighting back tears, ‘just not so sensitive to the family you’ve left behind.’ But Caitlyn’s response seems relatively unsympathetic. ‘I try to do everything I can to be nice, reach out, you have to see it from my perspecive,’ she says. ‘Be an ally’.
The tension reaches its climax when Kris goes on to bring up a comment that Caitlyn made about her ex-wife being ‘a distraction’. ‘Don’t go there,’ Caitlyn warns. ‘It was a distraction from the sense of who I was’.
The trailer also shows Caitlyn heading to New York City for Gay Pride, and a snippet of her emotional acceptance speech when she received the Arthur Ashe Courage Award in July this year.
Sunday’s episode saw Caitlyn’s stepdaughter Kim Kardashian get defensive of her mother, as the topic of Kris leaving the marriage was raised my Caitlyn. ‘If you’re a woman now, [Kris] is not a lesbian,’ Kim explained. ‘She does not want to be with a woman. That is not fair to ask… You got the fame, but you’re losing your family.’

Younger sister Khloe Kardashian also raised her issues with how her step-parent handled her transition. ‘We want to support you and be there for you,’ she told Caitlyn. ‘We don’t think that entails you speaking negatively about our mum… Let’s focus on the actual cause here, and let’s not drag our mum through the mud.’ She continued, in reference to Caitlyn’s recent Vanity Fair feature.
The six-part series will resume next Sunday, August 23 on E! Now.
