As we enter a new season it’s time to mix up your beauty regime. This season, it’s all about gorgeous glowing skin! Two key trends we have seen repeatedly this season are ‘radiant’ and ‘matte’ finishes. Flipping between these two looks, you can take your make up from glowing and casual during the day to polished for night in a few simple steps.
Make-up artist Elsa Morgan taught us how to master these two looks and maximise your summer glow for all occasions using the new La Mer complexion products!
According to Morgan “Skin prep is an essential step in your makeup routine that should never be skipped. If done correctly, this step alone will maximise your glowing skin.”
Step 1. PREP:
After cleansing and applying moisturiser give the skin 10 minutes to settle.
Elsa’s Pro Tip: Use Micellar Water as a facial cleanser.
Step 2. PRIME:
Apply your makeup base by smoothing from the centre of the face outwards using your fingers. Then go straight over the top with your foundation, no need to wait.
Elsa’s Tip: Use The Perfecting Treatment as a makeup base, “This product will give a satin finish to the skin and calm down any redness,” Elsa said.
Radiant look:
This look is a perfect go to for the summer months and has been described as ‘Ready To Wear.
“It’s something you can do quickly, a look for the weekend or for the days when you don’t want to look overly done,”
Step 1.
Use your ring finger, to mix one drop of oil with one pump of foundation
Elsa’s Tip: Use The Renewal Oil & Skincolor de La Mer Soft Fluid Long Wear Foundation together for a beautifully hydrating result and to create extra luminosity.
Step 2.
Use a foundation brush to blend and buff into the skin for the most natural finish. Start from the centre of the face and blend in a circular motion outwards.
“In almost every face, any broken capillaries, blemishes and redness will appear in the middle of the face and rarely on the outer parts. Therefore, concentrate the most product on your T-zone, blending outwards towards the hair and jawline”
Step 3.
Take another tiny drop of oil and apply to the high points of the face (cheekbones, cupids bow) and warm up any remaining product between your hands and press onto the face for a finished, radiant look.
Matte look:
This is the perfect look if you are after a more coverage and longer lasting hold. Elsa described this as an ‘haute couture’ look, “it’s for the days when you will be photographed, under harsh lights or going out in an evening where you will be dressed up,” she said.
Step 1.
After prepping your skin as above, apply foundation with a foundation brush in a sweeping motion from the centre to the outer points of the face.
Step 2.
Put concealer on your ring finger and press the product into the skin
Step 3.
If you prefer a more defined look, take a powder brush and apply powder in a light sweeping motion to set the foundation.
