Lara Stone Post Baby Body Truths
She was the supermodel with curves, so when she disappeared to have baby Alfred, the return of Lara Stone to the modelling circuit was closely watched. Would she diet them all away?
But Stone herself, in an interview with The Edit, has proven to be less than fussed.
“I was in maternity wear at nine weeks,” she said. “I was just eating whatever I wanted; I wasn’t being careful at all. Maybe in hindsight… No, I don’t give a shit. It was great!”
She got back into shape after carefully beginning working out once Alfred was six weeks old, but it took a long time. No snap-back narrative here. “By about nine months I began feeling more normal and I started to fit into my old clothes again, but my body still felt different,”
And she encountered unexpected changes – some of which couldn’t be fixed by exercise. “My ribs were expanded because Alfred was really high up,” she revealed, “so for the longest time I couldn’t fit any dresses higher than my waist.”
A bit of a problem for a model – but it all came together in the end.
She also admitted frankly that junk food is a problem for her: “It was about getting healthy. So there was the eating aspect – which I’m not always good at, I go through stages – and then there’s the going to the gym aspect.”
Stone is now modelling again, with exclusive contracts for L’Oreal and Calvin Klein. We wonder if we’ll see Alfred in a campaign for Baby Gap any time soon?

Forget Getting Out Of Bed For $10,000 – Gisele Might Earn $130,000 A Day
It’s been revealed that Gisele Bundchen is not only the highest-earning model in the world, she might actually earn more in a day than the average family earns in a year.
Forbes magazine estimated that Gisele’s income is something like $5,500 an hour, all day, every day.
How did they get to that number? By putting together all Gisele’s endorsements, deals, modelling contracts and commercial ventures.
And she has a lot. Even if she appeared to present the World Cup trophy in Brazil for free, she’s nicely supported by campaigns for H&M, Chanel, Louis Vuitton and others, her Brazilian flip-flop line and various other tie-ins.
Forbes has estimated that Bundchen has earned over $400 million since 2001 – but Vogue is sceptical, taking the figures “with a grain of salt.”
As is Bundchen, who revealed that after the last Forbes Rich List in 2013, she was audited by the IRS: “It’s sad, because the people who write these things don’t have my bank account details. I do OK, I earn plenty, but not as much as they say.”
The reality is that models’ pay is both fluid and often secretive. While it’s probable that Bundchen doesn’t do campaigns or walk catwalks for the free clothes, like many younger models, her agency and managing team all take a cut of her income.
What she earns from product lines, like her Hope lingerie, might also be immediately invested back in the business. Plus Gisele crafts her image carefully: to be seen as worth millions is almost more important than actually earning them.
Even if she doesn’t earn $130,000 a day, though, she’s still undoubtedly not worrying about splurging on a pair of Louboutins.

Mattel Is Launching A Karl Lagerfeld Barbie
We’re beginning to think that Karl Lagerfeld is trying to make his global brand as ubiquitous as McDonald’s.
Mattel have just announced that they’re launching a Karl Lagerfeld Barbie- clad in the designer’s uniform of a tailored jacket, black printed trousers, a high-necked white shirt and accessories galore. They’ve included his signature silver belt buckle, black cravat and even his penchant for silver medallions.
And, of course, the white-haired Barbie will wear heavy black sunglasses. Obviously.
Barbie is 55 this year, and Karl, who’s also celebrated a landmark birthday in 2014 – he turned 80 – knows all about how to mark significant milestones.
The Barbie even includes fingerless gloves.
Lagerfeld’s outfit is one of the most rigorously consistent in fashion: his white powdered ponytail and high collars have been his staple ever since he dieted radically in 2001 – to fit, he admitted, into the slim-cut suits of Hedi Slimane, now the head designer at Dior.
He’s also been taking the world by storm with his branding. There are Karl emoticons, a Karl Steiff teddy bear, a Karl Lagerfeld radio station in video game Grand Theft Auto IV, even official Karl finger puppets.
It seems that Karl is focussing on making his image, rather like that of Coco Chanel, the most focal point of his legacy.
What do you think of the world’s obsession with Karl’s likeness – and will you buy a Karl Barbie?
