Lindy Klim is many things; blogger, fashion icon, business entrepreneur, mother of three, Balinese Princess (as the niece of the king of Denpasar). Together with her retired Olympic swimming champion husband, Michael Klim (with a little bit of help from her children Stella, Rocco and Frankie), the globe-trotting beauty has recently started her own natural beauty line, Milk & Co. We sat down with Lindy to talk balancing work and life, living between two countries, and pursuing passions after children.
On living between two countries:
With her entire family in the public eye, Lindy Klim and her clan are often perceived as the thoroughly modern family. So how does she keep it all together, so that it’s not just an image, it’s a reality? Lindy says it’s hard work. With her and her husband, ex Olympic swimmer Michael Klim, tag-team commuting between Bali, Sydney and Melbourne, Lindy says it can be difficult, but ultimately worth it.
‘There are downsides…but the upside is we do have a great life, we do really love each other, we have a great family and the kids are really happy, that’s what’s most important.’
On being Balinese royalty:
Many people don’t know that Lindy Klim is in fact a Balinese princess, being the niece of Ida Cokorde Pamecutan XI, the king of Denpasar (the largest of eight Balinese kingdoms). Despite being born and raised in Australia to an Australian mother, this does entail some cultural responsibilities.
‘If I grew up in Bali I definitely should have taken on more of that role, but I’m very westernised now so they don’t really expect that of me.’
On having a multi-faceted career:
Blogger, fashion icon, successful entrepreneur with her beauty range, Milk & Co, how does she manage it all? Lindy says it all flows harmoniously.
‘I don’t put much thought into the rest of the stuff, fashion for me is just play, a love. It comes naturally… Business for me is my main thing and Milk is our family business… we’ve done everything we can to make it a successful business.’
On Milk:
As the brains and the beauty behind what started out as Michael Klim’s own range of men’s products (Milk is, of course, Klim spelled backwards), Lindy eventually expanded the beauty line to suit the entire family.
‘For the kids and baby range I developed that for my own children… I wanted an organic, natural feel and that was really hard to find at the time
On advice for following your passions after you’ve had your children:
Lindy says the key is to lose the guilt. Most mothers experience a lot of guilt about doing things for themselves, but letting go of that guilt is what allowed Lindy to follow her passions and achieve the things she’s always wanted.
‘Before you do anything, you need to let go of that [guilt] and then you can be the best person you can be just through that. Whether its making sure you time to go to the gym or starting a business… you just really have to let go of that guilt to love yourself a little bit more.’
