Rescu. resident and expert make-up artist Michael Brown will be holding a make up masterclass at the Sydney International Spa and Beauty Expo in Sydney this Saturday. Michael has worked with international supermodels such as Gisele Bundchen, Jesinta Campbell, and Samantha Harris and has built a career educating women on the best practices of makeup from red carpet to classic day-wear looks. He aims to bring confidence and energy forward through emotion and expression of the face.
Rescu. asked Michael what we can expect from his upcoming appearance and about his wildly successful career in the beauty industry.
RESCU: What will aspiring make-up artists learn from attending your Makeup Masterclass Sydney International Spa & Beauty Expo education session?
Michael Brown: My Makeup Masterclass education session at Sydney International Spa & Beauty Expo aims to provide aspiring make-up artists with quick, simple and easy techniques that can be achieved using less products, but still produce a stunning celebrity result. As a sneak peek, some of my top tips that I’ll be sharing include:
- That less is sometimes best, even with celebrities.
- The benefit of contouring. In all my make-up work contouring is everything. Understanding and applying the correct highlight and shade to the face can be that ‘wow’ factor transformation – and rather than the latest and greatest new products, creating a beautiful natural make-up look is really down to the basics.
- How to look past the skin and to facial movements, and then decide where product should be placed for lasting makeup looks.
- The benefits of layering to create beautiful finishes and textures, particularly for eyes.
RESCU:Why are events like Sydney International Spa & Beauty Expo important for make-up artists to attend?
Michael Brown: Events like Sydney International Spa & Beauty Expo provide a great opportunity to learn from other professionals and offer a chance for make-up artists of all level to be inspired and open their minds to other options. There’s a lot you can do with makeup, so why not know it all?
RESCU: How did you become a make artist?
Michael Brown: I grew up with heavy daily training as a dancer and was always helping the girls with makeup at performances. I decided, because I like makeup, I should get some official training, just in case I would like to pursue makeup further. In the end it took over the dancing and I became successful with my makeup career, starting out in retail cosmetics, which taught me so many techniques by working on real woman daily. Then moving to Sydney from Perth, my career expanded through media, fashion and celebrity work.
RESCU: What’s one of your top-tips for aspiring make-up artists?
Michael Brown: My top tip would be to be patient, work hard on creating a signature technique or look that you excel in and never stop learning – always be open minded to new, modern techniques to keep you at the top of the latest trends.
