Ryan Gosling ‘won’t eat his cereal’ and won’t claim the Sexiest Man Alive title, either.

They say any publicity is good publicity, and in terms of being deemed People Magazine’s Sexiest Man Alive, one would think a Hollywood actor would take it in stride – and then some.
Apparently not, according to Ryan Gosling, who is said to have turned down the title despite being offered it several times.
Ladies the world over have wondered why they are being denied further shirtless snaps of The Notebook, Driver and Crazy, Stupid Love star, who’s ‘Hey, Girl’ memes have become an internet sensation.
“They tried a few times, especially during his huge year in 2011,” a source has said of the 34-year-old actor, who has reportedly turned the magazine down every time.
Despite being quite the prankster, “the consensus was he’s too serious for it, too artsy,” a source said.
Fine, Ryan, have it your way. He’s probably got his hands full with new baby, Esmerelda, anyway.
Despite the uproar from Ryan fans, the magazine has instead named Australia’s hunkiest export Chris Hemsworth to claim the title – and rightly so.
“While I look forward to the day when Ryan Gosling is named Sexiest Man Alive, this was not his year,” Jess Cagle, editorial director for People and Entertainment Weekly.
“Our 2014 honoree Chris Hemsworth was our first and only choice. If you want to know why, just look at him. I mean, seriously.”
We tend to agree. Chris Hemsworth burst onto our TV screens in 2004 on the Australian actors rite of passage, Home and Away, as the gym owning heart-throb Kim Hyde. Since his humble beginning he’s gone on to flex his famous abs as Marvel’s Thor across several films as well as everyone’s favourite Huntsman alongside Kristen Stewart in 2012’s Snow White and The Huntsman.
George Clooney, Johnny Depp, Brad Pitt and Richard Gere have each claimed Sexiest Man Alive twice over the magazine’s 29 history of the title.
Would you believe the first ever title was claimed in 1985 by a 29-year-old Mel Gibson? Or ten years ago we were all obsessing over Jude Law? A sign of the times it seems, so who will it be 2024? Please don’t say Justin Bieber…
Watch Chris claim the title and discuss what his wife thinks of it, in the most Australian way possible (rugged good looks and all), below.
