Amy Jean is the go-to Brow Queen for international celebrities including the likes of Dannii Minogue, Naomi Campbell and Delta Goodrem.
“Every power brow requires a little work before you can really rock it!” says Amy Jean. Rescu. sat down with Amy to find out the powerful secret and defining element for achieving a killer brow.
RESCU: What is your eye Lash Elevate technique?
Amy Jean: A more modern day lash perm. Silicon moulds are placed across the eyelids and the natural lashes are lifted up on to the pads and positioned straight up towards the eyebrows. A few solutions are applied over the course of a relaxing 60 minute treatment. We complete the service with a lash tint for added definition.
RESCU: Who is it suitable for?
Amy Jean: Anyone, but in particular people with straight lashes. It curls them from the root up.
RESCU: How long does it last?
Amy Jean: 8-10 weeks.
RESCU: Is there any one who can’t have it?
Amy Jean: If you have recently had lash extensions your lashes are brittle and fragile. We recommend waiting 6 weeks to regain some strength into the lashes before lifting them.
RESCU: Any expert tips for eyelash health and getting them to grow?
Amy Jean: There are a couple of good lash conditioning/growth serums on the market in the USA (such as Revitalash and FYSIKO) but sadly they are not available for purchase in Australia.
Avoid waterproof mascaras. We tend to really rub at the lashes aggressively to remove waterproof products. Also, if you want to grow them, you must give up all forms of lash extensions. Permanent and strips. It inhibits the natural process of lashes growing through.
RESCU: Any expert tips on what never to do to your lashes?
Amy Jean: Never pick at them. We tend to twist and twirl them subconsciously, particularly when we have extensions on. Hands off!
RESCU: You are famous for your ability to perform a virtual face lift with brows and lashes- what is the most important thing to consider when having brows shaped?
Amy Jean: Thank you! The most important investment you will ever make is with an eyebrow artist. Do your research and look at their portfolio of clients. As an artist, you may only remove 3-5 hairs on each brow, but they will be the “correct” ones, not a simple slap-happy job where you need to visibly see where the artist has mowed the lawns. This is a very detailed skill set. Have a lengthy discussion about your brows before you allow the artist to perform his/her “interpretation”.
RESCU: Do you suggest tinting eyebrows darker or lighter to make them look thicker?
Amy Jean: It depends on the hair colour of the client. If they are fair/platinum I would suggest a very soft taupe or brown to give more strength to the overall appearance. If someone has near jet black locks and brows I would suggest “lightening” them to soften out the harsh definition in their brow. Brow lightening isn’t commonly requested, however I generally always recommend it to my darker clients.
RESCU: What is your best tip for eyebrow rehab if you’ve over plucked?
Amy Jean: Do all you can to grow them out and see an eyebrow artist once a month during this process. This will stop you from being tempted on taking the odd one. If you feel you simply aren’t happy with the shape, you may want to consider “micro feathering”. A semi permanent tattoo using all natural pigments that are etched into the skin to mimic real hair strokes. This treatment lasts up to 2 years and is priced from $895
Rescu. LOVES: I wanted to road test the genius lash curling treatment I had heard rave reviews about ahead of a trip overseas where I didn’t want to worry about mascara and needed to look fresh and wide eyed. I have truly never had any beauty treatment in my life that delivered so many compliments. From the lady at customs to my friends in London and total strangers commenting on my amazing lashes, Amy Jean’s magic was the gift that kept on giving. I am addicted – Bahar Etminan
