What do you want your future to be? For many people, this question can create more questions, or a blank look. You look at your present life, you may or may not be happy with what you have created to this point. You may be living the exact life you desire. Or, you may be living paycheque to paycheque, you don’t like how your body is, you may not have the relationship you want, or maybe you are living the life your parents mapped out for you. Perhaps you think your life is fine.

We get conditioned to stay in our routines. You get up, go to work, go out with friends, have dinner, chat on the phone or watch TV or play on the internet, go to bed, and do the same thing the next day, and the next. You become complicit and stagnant with your life. When it comes to creating your future and reaching new levels of joy and success, the ability to leave your comfort zone is essential.
So how do you leave your comfort zone and create your future? You start by asking the right questions. What is the right question? Questions that don’t come to an answer or conclusion which limits you. The right question is one asked from a place of curiosity, and what might be available to you, that you have never imagined or considered before. It opens for you to be aware of different possibilities and choices.
Entrepreneur, strategist and Being You facilitator, Arlene Schmidek shares the 3 questions to get you started:
1. What choices do I have in my business and career?
There is no one else like you, so celebrate all of your talents, skills, capacities, experiences and choices. No one has walked the same path as you, have experienced what you have, or cultivated your unique perspective and skillset. Asking the questions of yourself, and the choices you may have, allows you to not only acknowledge how unique you are, but also opens options for you that you may never have seen before. You may also see there are endless possibilities you can choose for your future. You have the capacity to change anything in your life. You are where you are right now because of the choices you have made. Choices that seemed like the right thing to choose at the time. You are the one that created your life. If you are not satisfied, you can make the decision to change, and do things differently at any moment.
2. What can I choose?
What if money, time or resources were not the issue, what possibilities would there be to choose from? We use these three main reasons to limit ourselves, our business or career from being as dynamic as it can be. Beliefs around money are probably more limiting than most other areas of your life. If you believe money is a problem and is limiting you, then chances are you will also limit and reduce your creativity and ability to have new opportunities for growth.
3. Will this create the greatest future?
So much are we taught is, that if we get the ‘right’ formula for business, we will succeed. Most of us have spent our entire life looking for the answer – the right answer. The desire to be right can be one of the biggest limitations we have. If you always want to be right, it stops you from changing, and becomes a limitation that stops your growth – because of this need you have to always make the right change, the right way, the right time. Often you are always comparing yourself with others when you want to be right, and are also judging others to see where they are wrong, so you are right. It can become exhausting. Ask this question, and see how this will help shift things for you, and to not shut the door on a possibility which may be there in front of you, through your desire to be right.
When you ask these questions, be open to a sense of curiosity about everything that comes your way, and the possibilities available, rather than seeking answers and coming to conclusions. These questions can change your life and lead you into the future you desire with more joy, new experiences, and people to share it with.
