The night of all nights in Hollywood is here, the 87th Academy Awards and as we love to talk frocks, they would be nothing without the touch of Oscars Beauty; the two go hand in hand…
Who wowed, who kept it classic and who had fun?
It’s all about balance in my opinion for the best in beauty and really piecing an entire look that works together, obviously enhancing a woman’s best features.
Here are my Top 3 Oscars 2015 Red Carpet makeup looks (and a little hair thrown in for good measure)…
1. Margot Robbie – The Wow Factor
The girl from the Gold Coast has come along way and today stepping out in Saint Laurent, I had a little wow moment…
Going back to blonde, Margot took a classic red carpet red lip and gave it edge with her new cut, longer at the front of her face with slight texture and then a blunt edge at the back of her neck.
This look is super wearable, which I love and it shows that you don’t have to add a lot of makeup or dark eyes to pull off an Oscar-worthy red carpet look.
A slight contour shade has been added on the mobile eyelid with a little extra shading on the lower lash line to create extra depth.
I love that Margot has opted for no heavy shading around the eyes, keeping the lashes a focus, which balances out the bright red lip perfectly.
A little brush upwards on the brows gives a lifted look, but also adds a modern twist.
Margot’s red lip has a slightly summery vibe going for an orange-based red, much better for her hair skin and lighter hair, as a blue base red is more for someone with an olive complexion.
MB PRO TIP:
Apply your bold lip with your fingertip, this will assist in the ‘stain’ effect, making sure the lipstick is fused to the lip and not sitting on top, with a higher transfer rate. Then add a lip line after lipstick application to define the lip edge.
2. Reese Witherspoon – The Classic Beauty
Truly tonight a golden girl, look at that glow!
Reese to me shows a very ‘now’ classic red carpet vibe, looking stunning in Tom Ford.
The soft peach tones on her lip and cheek really lift her face, adds colour and life to a very neutral gown and I am in love with the hair, still showing off her face, yet elegantly styled which can be hard when wearing the hair down.
It’s all about the eyes with Reese…
Smuldery chocolate shadow dresses the upper and lower lash lines, but I love the elongated outer wing shape – this works well with her black horizontal panels on the gown.
Having a dressed up eye always means a softer shade of lip and Reese has nailed the balance with this makeup look.
MB PRO TOP:
For an elongated winged shadow line like Reese’s, map out your start/finish points…
Grab an eyeliner and place and the edge of your nostril and hold diagonally upwards to the outer corner of your eye, this shows your wing line, going lower than this can pull the eyes down, the idea is to elongate and lift!
3. Jennifer Lopez – The Fun Factor
J Lo rocking a modern, Ellie Saab, Princess look, loving this fun, youthful vibe!
J Lo has been rocking the Red Carpet of late, showing that sexy and elegant is achievable in your 40’s, you go girl – Does she ever age?
I loved this look as J Lo is known for her smokey eyes and nude lip, but today with such a nude toned gown, so similar to her olive complexion, J Lo opted for a slightly lilac based pink lip…
By choosing this lip shade, it lifts the beading of the gown, plus gives colour to a skin tone that could of looked dull if going for her signature nude tone lip.
A slightly peachy nude tone was used to shape the eyes, rather than a typical contour bronzer shade, which once again could of looked flat against the dress and skin tome shade.
J Lo’s skin is always flawless and glowing with light.
Adding light is one technique that can take your makeup from drab to fab in seconds!
Know your highlight points – the frontal bones (where we tend to get sunburnt first), it can lift your bone structure, but also add clarity to any skin tone.
MB PRO TIP:
Use the double concealer trick for an always, red carpet ready under eye area…
Add a slightly deeper, yellow to orange-based concealer first, right on the dark circle area – this shade will correct the blue/dark tones present.
Then place, in a dabbing application, a lighter concealer – this will lift and brighten the area that has now been corrected, to give new lift to an often dark area on the face.
P.S. Now that’s a red carpet ponytail…. Often hard to achieve and what can look great on the runway, does not always transcend on the Red Carpet.
Once again, we are inspired by these fabulous Red Carpet Trends, all wearable and all speaking different focuses…
Whatever your top picks, choose one focal area, balance your look with your outfit of choice and beauty will always work.
Happy Oscar Day!
