This startling statistic comes from a poll which set out to discover women’s attitudes to indulgence and love this Valentine’s Day. While many women like to regularly indulge in chocolate and pizza, at the extreme end, many of them are married to their treats to the point where they have become their preferred partner.
Top Indulgent Food Choices:
- Chocolate – 45%
- Pizza – 37%
- Thai Takeout – 30%
- Indian curry – 15%
- Lasagne – 9%
The poll revealed a quarter per cent indulged sporadically, as if indulgent foods were a ‘one time fling’. 37 per cent enjoyed them every few weeks like a regular ‘food affair’, one in three said it was a once a week habit and eight per cent were married to the idea eating indulgent foods each and every day.
Australian Weight Watchers nutrition advisor and Accredited Practising Dietitian, Emma Stirling believes Valentine’s Day should be the occasion to practise some flexible restraint.
“Valentine’s Day is the perfect opportunity to indulge and show your love, but if it happened every day it wouldn’t be so special. It’s important that your one night ‘food fling’ doesn’t become a daily ‘food affair’.
“I am a firm believer in the art of ‘flexible restraint’ which means using a moderate level of control to achieve lasting weight loss but also having a system in place that gives you permission to treat yourself and kick up your heels now and then. Studies have shown people who deprive themselves of the foods they love are prone to ‘on again/off again’ weight-loss practices.
Stirling has the perfect solution this Valentine’s Day for couples who want to have their cake and eat it too:
“Enjoy the best of both worlds this Valentine’s Day – if you want that pizza or chocolate just make sure you celebrate the special day with your partner too.”
