Want a photo-ready, flawless complexion in three simple steps? Too easy! We all suffer from scarring, discolouration and other skin concerns from time to time; the secret is knowing how to combat them. Here Rescu. Beauty Expert Michael Brown shares his three simple steps to conceal scarring and skin imperfections in no time.
Step One: Treat it
The first step is to treat the skin itself, helping your skin concerns to actually fade away. Michael Brown suggests applying Bio-Oil to your skin before you start your makeup and that it’s amazing for a variety of skin concerns, “like acne scarring, scars on the body, stretch marks, anything that’s really discoloured on the skin, it can really fade that away.”
Step Two: Conceal with a Darker Tone
Once you’ve given your skin a good dose of nourishment, it’s time to put your trusty makeup to work. Michael suggests using a concealer set that includes multiple shades. Apply a darker, yellow-based concealer to your skin with a pinpoint brush, and then use your finger to dab the concealer and create an even consistency.
Michael shared that because scars and redness tend to be located around the cheek area of the face, “… you need to counteract that dark pigment with another colour that’s also the same depth of pigment. Don’t think that using a lighter concealer will do everything for you.”
Step Three: Conceal with a Lighter Tone
Follow the first shade of concealer with a lighter tone, to create a truly natural look and add that must-have glow to your complexion. “Sometimes with a yellow-based concealer you can see that it’s a bit dull, that’s why it’s best to have two shades,” says Michael. “Always buy one that’s more yellow based and deep, and then one that’s a little bit lighter to get that glow.”
