Hamish Blake took out the Gold Logie at the 2012 awards over hot favourites Asher Keddie and Carrie Bickmore. See if your favourite TV personality or TV show won an award with our full list of winners from Australian television’s night of nights!
One half of comedy duo ‘Hamish and Andy’, Hamish Blake was voted Most Popular Television Personality and took out the top gong over the bookie’s favourite Carrie Bickmore as well as Most Popular Actress, Asher Keddie. Others in the category included comedian and television host Adam Hills, who won a Silver Logie for his own, Karl Stefanovic and Esther Anderson who looked radiant in an Alex Perry gown.
The Logie’s red carpet did not dissapoint with statuesque stunners, Megan Gale (also in Alex Perry), Jennifer Hawkins and a host of Aussie beauties adding some sparkle to the event that isn’t exactly known for it’s glamour.
No one could have anticipated the hoard of screaming girls for UK boy band, One Direction, who put on an enthusiastic performance on the red carpet and became the subject of several jokes throughout the ceremony.
American RnB star, Flo Rider injected started the ceremony with a bang with Carrie Bickmore admitting she wanted to get up and dance, but looked around and no one else was so she remained seated!
Performances continued throughout the night by recently divorced Seal, sporting gold nail polish and a glowing Delta Goodrem who belted out her newest tune. Tributes were paid to the legendary Ian ‘Molly’ Meldrum jerking some tears at the event as he was inducted into the Hall of Fame
Hamish Blake also won for his show ‘Hamish and Andy’s Gap Year’ and shared the award with his partner in comedy, Andy Lee. Of winning the major award, the Gold Logie, Blake said,”It (winning gold) is going to mean a punch in the back of the head by (fellow nominee Karl) Stefanovic. I have to watch out,” he joked.
“It is lovely. It was a fluke to be nominated and … a far bigger fluke to actually hold that Logie.
“We will stick jewels and little diamonds on it to really euro-trash it up.”
Perhaps Blake’s Twitter and Facebook campaigning and massive following had something to do with his win?
In terms of the battle of the networks, Ten picked up statuettes for its Grand Final coverage and Bondi Rescue. Nine claimed six awards and Seven five and the ABC took eight.
