IMG has announced that Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia will become the first event to host an annual showcase of Resort collections commencing May 2016.
The global event hosted annually will shift from its previous Spring/Summer collections showcased in April to May 15 – 21, 2016 with collections centred around Resort.
The decision to make Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia the global destination for Resort collections was a collaborative decision made with local industry leaders, designers and NSW Government. The biggest fashion names will debut their Resort collections in Sydney, working to further establish Sydney as a global fashion capital.
With the leading fashion capitals functioning on an opposite climate rotation to Australia, the global fashion industry is predominantly regulated to this international schedule. This unique opportunity opens the doors for Australia to move forward and showcase its own distinctive fashion identity.
With Australian designer’s being given the ability to present Resort wear, both local and international buyers will purchase according to their most desired collection on the calendar. This means Australia will now be able to shop seasonally throughout the year, with more styles available, and for longer!
More fashion, more swimwear, more beach wear – Sydney is the perfect sunny spot to host the Resort collections.
IMG further states that “The world’s most influential buyers and media travel to Sydney for Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia and the event promotes both the NSW fashion industry and our harbour city as an iconic fashion destination to audiences worldwide”
Watch out, World – The Australian fashion scene is climbing the global fashion industry rankings!
