Women are taking control of Centennial Park on May 4th for the Nike She Runs 10k. The thrilling night run returns to the park to inspire women to stay active and unleash their inner ‘she’ animal. From Cheetahs (those who are in it to win it) to Lionesses (in it to set a personal best) and Tigresses (in it to finish), fierce women will be challenged to take on the park and run the night.
Rescu. spoke to Nike She Runs ambassadors athlete Kelly Hetherington, model Jodi Anasta and actress Rhiannon Fish about their preparation for the event. We’ve collected their top tips for staying fierce.
RESCU: What does a week of training look like for you?
Jodi Anasta: I work out 5-6 days a week. I walk for 45-1 hour or run for 30minutes. I also love mixing other activities into my workouts like Pilates, sprint training and swimming.
Kelly Hetherington: A typical week of training usually involves 12 sessions varying between speed endurance sessions on the athletics track, long runs, Easy 4km jogs, weights and pilates. Training weekly really incorporates a wide variety of different workouts to keep things interesting and challenging.
Rhiannon Fish: I train 6 times a week, 3 weights based training sessions (Body Pump and my personal trainer), 2 sessions of cardio and finally Pilates once a week.
RESCU: Your top three favourite workout tracks
Jodi Anasta: ‘Mirrors’ – JT, ‘
Dont you worry child’ – Swedish House Mafia
and ‘If I know you’ – Presets.
Kelly Hetherington: Oh, only three, that is a tough one! I must admit I am a huge fan of Aussie hip hop and old school music when I am exercising. Both never fail to get me pumped and ready for my work out! My number one never fail track is Hilltop Hoods – ‘Nose Bleed Section’, Number two – ‘Ignition Remix’ – R Kelly (Oldie but always a goodie), Number Three- ‘Drapht’ – Rapunzel.
Rhiannon Fish: ‘Since Your Gone’ – The Pretty Reckless, ‘My Songs Know What You Did In The Dark’ – Fall Out Boy and ‘Addictive’ – Reece Mastin.
RESCU: Your go-to healthy snack
Jodi Anasta: I LOVE snacks – some of my favorites are hummus & carrot ; Cruskets with cheese & tomato; Apples, Strawberries & Yoghurt and Miso soup.
Kelly Hetherington: I absolutely love fruit – I always have some sort of fruit in my training bag for a pick me up.
Rhiannon Fish: Watermelon, blueberries and carrot juice.
RESCU: Your gym bag must-haves
Jodi Anasta: Water! A great pair of runners – I will be running in the Nike LunarGlide +4 on race day, a great gym towel my girlfriends got me for my b’day, music is a must, an apple, and occasionally a protein shake! Post exercise style is also key, I’ll often throw in a cute windrunner jacket or hooded throw over to get me to and from my workout
Kelly Hetherington: I have alot of “must-haves” in my gym bag. I always have a few water bottles, Pair of my Nike LunerFlys and Nike Victory Spikes, Ipod, stop watch and always have some Bronzer and dry Shampoo to get me through the rest of the day/night. Rhiannon Fish: Water, Body Science Protein shake, towel, heart rate monitor and head phones.
RESCU: The best motivational quote or piece of advice you’ve ever heard
Jodi Anasta: Don’t think about it too much…just do it!
Kelly Hetherington: I love the quote: If you think you can, or think you can’t your probably right- The choice is yours.
Rhiannon Fish: “life is too short to be anything but happy.”
RESCU: Your top tip for newbie runners
Jodi Anasta: The tips I have been given are to work on my fitness as well as distance. I think you need both – in order to not only enjoy the run but to run it in a good time.
Kelly Hetherington: My number one tip for new runners is find a reliable running partner or training group that will turn up without fail. It is so much easier and more enjoyable to start training if you have someone with you to share to journey with.
Rhiannon Fish: Start slow! I wasn’t a runner until I started training for Nike She Runs. I started with just 20 minutes at a time and week by week increased the duration. It’s incredible how fast your body adapts.
