This show was all about grown-up elegance and powerful, yet seemingly relaxed dressing. On trend with the dreaming of yesteryear, this show referenced past decades; think screen siren dressing of the 40s crossed with chic, carefree dressing of the 70s.
Roy may have called this collection “sexy androgyny”, but the femininity of it lies in what the eye does not see. Three quarter length draped skirts, loosely wrapped dresses and casually undone silky shirts tucked into tailored, lowly slung trousers don’t expose excess skin, but the form fitting lines allude to it, and the wearer can chose to be in Roy’s own words “as naughty as you’re daring to go”.
RESCU’s favourite dress was a white jersey one-shouldered gown, which even Roy said would be the only reason she would consider dieting for.
The Make-up:
The make-up for the show was created by Bobbi Brown, who often works with Roy and loves the fact that this designer knows what both women and It girls want, and opts for on-trend make-up that is flawless, but is “not a done look and not an undone look”.
The brief for this make-up was a strong, but still pretty and clean look with one focal point – which became the strong lip colour. Brown created this colour by mixing black lipstick with violet and purple and brushing onto the lips.
Before applying the lip colour, Brown first created skin that looked matte and flawless by using eye cream and base cream. Next foundation, eye powder, face powder and bronzer were applied to the entire face.
The eyebrows were worked on with a soft colour, and in keeping with the 70s feel, the eye make-up extends outwards instead of upwards, a trend Brown believes will be key this season.
The Hair:
Hair was created by renowned hairstylist Frédéric Fekkai and was inspired by a decade old glamorous image of supermodel Christy Turlington with 70s styled hair.
To create this look:
- First form a centre part.
- Using curling irons, take sections of hair and twist them half way up the hair, holding these in place with bobby pins.
- Spray Fekkai Sheer Hold Hairspray and then release the pins.
- For extra gloss, lightly spray Fekkai Sheer Shine Mist.
