The Oscars 2013 are the focus of the world today, the culmination of the Silly Season of Awards shows and of course – The Carpet! The Red Carpet was full on tulle and trains, but the standouts and best looks had a more polished appeal. Sleek, stylish and strapless were the big winners for me. The best hair was kept unfussy but still very old Hollywood with waves, side parts and up-do’s all making the cut. Make up was kept simple and wasn’t too dramatic and dark. Matte looks kept it fresh and the focus thankfully was on the gowns. So let’s get to my favourites Pronto:
The Oscars 2013: Best and Worst Dressed
Charlize Theron in Dior:
This woman is incredible. Long locks, pixie cut– it doesn’t matter. Charlize is the epitome of class in this ice-white gown. I know the peplum is a little last season but she looks every bit the superstar. She is groomed and crisp- immaculate.
Naomi Watts in Armani Prive:
Gilded and beautiful. EVERYTHING works here, even the neckline. This is how to wear sequins– keep the rest simple and let the gown shine.
Sandra Bullock in Elie Saab:
This is dark without being drab. Sandra has kept the right balance- subtle, sheer and still sexy! Non nominees take notes.
Amanda Seyfried in Alexander McQueen:
This is frothy and feminine and age appropriate. The neckline is something we haven’t seen for a while, and I love the detailing. She is so petite and fairylike and I love it!
Samantha Barks in Valentino:
Wow. This looks like a plain old black dress but this little known (for now!) starlet makes a big first impression. So incredibly chic and sexy and the hint of glitz with the necklace gives this such a lift. I am loving her in this.
Jennifer Lawrence in Dior Haute Couture:
Stunning. Sometimes a gown can overwhelm a woman but I think Jennifer nails this. It is her year and this to me, is how an Oscar winner should look. Clean, fresh and dressing their age! This gown is perfect for her and the accessories tie back into the gown. Watch this girl- she will only get better…
