Victoria’s Secret Drops Cara Delevingne And Jessica Hart
The full list of Victoria’s Secret Angels and models for the brand’s first ever London show has debuted – and the omissions are more of a surprise than the inclusions.
We all knew that Miranda Kerr had bowed out; after a series of nasty rumours, Kerr confirmed that she was no longer an Angel back in early 2014. But Cara Delevingne, who only made her debut on the Victoria’s Secret catwalk in 2012, has been left out altogether.
It’s possible that Delevingne simply doesn’t have the time: she’s the face of Burberry and numerous other companies, and isn’t likely to be sitting by the phone waiting for it to ring. But her best mate, Jourdan Dunn, was selected – so it’s clearly not a dislike of partying Brits with huge social media presence.
Kendall Jenner wasn’t selected either, which has probably crushed her, as she once told the press that it was her dream to be a Victoria’s Secret Angel. Given that she’s revealed the extent of backstage bitchery towards her at Fashion Week, perhaps Jenner should be counting her blessings.
Jessica Hart, the Aussie who made a splash on Victoria’s catwalk last year, was left off the list too – but we think we might know the reason for that one. Hart was the one who famously slammed Taylor Swift’s involvement in the 2013 show as a singer in thigh-skimming outfits, saying that Taylor “didn’t have what it takes” to be an Angel.
Given that Swift’s bestie, Karlie Kloss, is an Angel herself, it was probably girl-on-girl politics that doomed Hart to watch from the sidelines. Whoops.
The show is all about change this season. For the first time, there will be not one but two Fantasy Bras – the enormously expensive lingerie that is the crowning jewel of the show. They’ll be worn by the two longest-serving Angels, Alessandra Ambrosio and Adriana Lima.
And with one Aussie out, another is in: Shanina Shaik, who’s been angling for a modelling spot on the runway for a while, has been confirmed as a participant.
The show will take place in London in December, and Lily Aldridge has revealed a secret: she told Vogue that even the Angels only get eight tickets apiece. Problem being that Aldridge’s British family is huge. “We’re having an Aldridge lottery,” she said.
There are no hints yet about the themes or ranges on show, and all the designs will be kept on lockdown till the runway curtain goes up.
What about the selections has surprised you?
